Jubilee Afternoon Tea

Step Back In Time With Fred. Olsen’s Jubilee Afternoon Tea

Join me as I step back in time with Fred. Olsen’s Jubilee Afternoon Tea.

The Jubilee Afternoon Tea on Fred. Olsen is a chargeable event. It takes place on the final sea day of your cruise and is different to the Traditional Afternoon Tea which is bookable in advance of your cruise. It aims to take you back to a golden era blending British charm with vintage inspired entertainment.

During the Group Cruise that we held on board Borealis in April 2026, I and my two long term friends from home, Minnie and Ann, decided to treat ourselves. As this event is not bookable prior to sailing, we visited Guest Services where it was very straight forward to book places.

Welcome

On the day of the Jubilee Afternoon Tea we made our way to The Observatory for the event. We were greeted with a classic Pimm’s Royale cocktail or Golden Jubilee Fizz mocktail on arrival. Once seated the white-gloved waiters offered a selection of loose leaf teas which were then served in individual tea pots and tea strainers. (Please note if you want Assam this is in a tea bag not loose leaf)

We were able to settle at our table while these wonderful waiters looked after us, making sure we were comforable and had all we needed.

Entertainment

Live music came in the form of four of the Entertainment Team and piano accompaniment. They performed songs from the era together with some more up to date numbers – all with a modern take to the music. The music was super, the singing and dancing was good too. Performing two short sessions, the cast came to chat to people at their tables in the break which was a lovely touch.

The Main Event

So now on to the principal part of the event – the food! Again served by white-gloved waiters, the tiered cake stands were presented on each table.

The bottom tier comprised of dainty filled rolls and finger sandwiches. Fillings included smoked salmon, cheese and pickle and egg mayo.

The middle tier saw a myriad of bite sized cakes including mini Battenbergs and mini meringue kisses.

Of course, the highlight is the top tier. We had a selection of traditional, fruit and cheese scones – all daintily handmade. To accompany there were pots of butter, clotted cream and jam.

No need to skimp – if you wanted more then extra was readily available.

My Thoughts

The whole event lasted over an hour and was a very memorable way to celebrate an occasion or just to enjoy with family and friends.  Definitely one for those with a sweet tooth!

I’m not sure I would do this particular event again. However I am keen to try the Traditional Afternoon Tea on Fred. Olsen, a treat I’ve not yet had time to enjoy.
