We are lucky enough to have some amazing places to visit right on our doorstep. One of those is the ancient City of Bath.
We recently arranged to meet friends, Margaret and Jackie from New Zealand, for lunch in Bath, but decided to go a little early and have a quick look around.
Bath is classified as a Clean Air Zone and so those driving to the area are encouraged to use Park & Ride Services. For us the car journey was preferable to other alternatives and so we headed to the one closest to our home. It was easy to find and, as we travelled out of the busy holiday season, there were plenty of parking spaces available including those for people holding blue badges. The buses depart every 15 minutes and it takes about 10 minutes to reach the city centre. We paid £5.50 for two of us which covered the parking and return journey on the bus within the permitted times.

Even the journey into the City was interesting giving an overview of the layout – especially from the upper deck of the bus. Soon we were in the city centre and found with the reduced vehicles strolling around was much more pleasant.
The Abbey Green area seems to be the very heart of the city together with the adjacent Bath Abbey (pictured above) and the Roman Baths. These attractions alone are worthwhile visiting. We did however get to see the buildings from the outside, listen to the quality street buskers and marvel at the ‘human statue’ in this historic area.
We had arranged to meet our friends at a pub recommended to us situated on Abbey Green, called the Crystal Palace and which is easy to find. Lunch was a very pleasant affair with good food, great company and good service. But all too soon it was time to head home.
The bus stop was easy to find and as buses are so regular there is never long to wait. It was easy to find the car, easy to find our way out and we were very soon heading back to our home to reminisce on a great day out.
